Alliance Medical delivers vision for National PET/CT Contract at special launch event

Monday, August 10, 2015

Alliance Medical were joined by senior members of NHS England and staff from The Christie NHS Foundation Trust to launch the National PET/CT Contract secured earlier this year.  The launch event was focused on cementing the partnership with NHS England and their external partners through the collaborative network at a special event held at the School of Oncology that will facilitate and provide training to the collaborative network throughout the contract.

The launch was attended by 75 guests, including Alliance Medical staff, clinical and research staff from The Christie, who have partnered with Alliance Medical to deliver PET/CT services as part of the contract, as well as senior contract and commissioning personnel from NHS England and members of the Strategic Projects Team.

Guests at the event heard speeches from senior figures from Alliance Medical and The Christie, including Guy Blomfield, Group Chief Executive at Alliance Medical Group, and Dr Prakash Manoharan, consultant radiologist & nuclear medicine physician at The Christie, who explained their vision of how PET/CT would be delivered across England under the new contract.  The event also featured speeches from NHS England representatives, Catherine O’Connell, Regional Director of Specialised Commissioning, NHS England and Wai-Lup Wong, Clinical Guardian of PET/CT and Chair of PET/CT Clinical Reference Group at NHS England.  In addition, Christine Allmark, patient representatives from NHS England addressed the audience in relation to the importance of research in relation to the delivery of PET/CT services in the future.

In January 2015, NHS England selected a collaborative network led by Alliance Medical to provide PET-CT scanning services across 30 locations in England, following a competitive tender process.  As part of the deal, the consortium will improve the current PET-CT infrastructure and delivery as well as providing first class training and education for radiographers and technologists through an innovative School of Oncology hosted by The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

Speaking at the event, Guy Blomfield, Group Chief Executive at Alliance Medical Group, said: “We’re very proud to have been selected alongside our partners to provide PET-CT imaging services in England and are delighted to be able to share our vision of how we will work together to support NHS England’s objective of improving cancer survival rates across the country.

“Working with key partners such as The Christie, we look forward to delivering on this target by providing improved access to PET/CT services as well as making continuous improvements to the current pathway and service provision throughout the life of the contract.”
