San Nicolò Outpatient Clinic

A story of people, ideas, and courageous choices in Carpi that has accompanied generations of citizens.

The origins (1936–1960)

In 1936, Dr. Venturino Venturini, family doctor for Carpi families, opened his practice on the ground floor of his home at Via Andrea Costa 6. The practice remained unchanged until the doctor's death in 1960.

In 1959, her daughter Laura, a health officer and school doctor, married Professor Salvatore Russo, who had just returned from Oxford, where between 1955 and 1957 he and Dr. Hellis studied radiological studies applied to oncology through pioneering X-ray therapy.

It was Professor Russo himself who introduced X-ray therapy for the treatment of tumors in Italy, at the Modena Polyclinic.

Immediately after Dr. Venturini's death in 1961, his son Franco, also a general practitioner, together with his brother-in-law, began the renovation and expansion of the small clinic.

The birth of the Specialist Outpatient Clinic (1962)

In 1962, the two brothers-in-law's vision took shape: a multidisciplinary private specialist clinic, which over time welcomed illustrious Carpi professionals in dentistry, pediatrics, ophthalmology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, gynecology, dermatology, and orthopedics. A far-sighted decision that captured the changing perception of preventive healthcare at the height of the economic boom.

A reference for the community

As the Polyclinic became a landmark for the city, Professor Russo's career took off: he worked at the Polyclinic and the "Villa Vittoria" Nursing Home in Modena, collaborated with INAM (National Institute for Health Insurance) and served as a Councilor of the Modena Medical Association. He is a member of SIMSECE (external specialists affiliated with INPS under the National Collective Agreement pursuant to Article 48 of Law No. 833 of December 23, 1978, for the provision of outpatient services under external agreements), a member of the ENPAM Consultation Committee, and a sports doctor for the Modena football team.

Modernization and convention (late 1970s-1991)

In the late 1970s, Professor Russo decided to invest in new equipment; in 1984, further structural improvements and the expansion of the diagnostic and physiotherapy departments allowed the center to obtain an agreement with the National Health Service. Between 1990 and 1991, perhaps inspired by the nearby church, the center took on the name by which it is still known today: San Nicolò Specialist Outpatient Clinic.

The diagnostic vocation

In the following years, the professional approach of Prof. Russo, a radiological oncologist, guided the facility toward a single-specialty organization focused on mammography, bone radiology, and ultrasound, while maintaining the physical medicine and rehabilitation department.

The passing of the baton (2005–2011)

In 2005, at the age of 81, Professor Russo, along with his daughters, partners in the practice, sold the business, continuing to serve as the facility's Medical Director. In 2008, for urgent structural upgrades, the facility moved to larger, more suitable premises. In 2011, the clinic was transferred from Medipalma to the current Alliance Medical Diagnostic, which inherited the legacy and continues to lead it forward with vision and responsibility.

The legacy of Prof. Russo

Professor Salvatore Russo passed away in June 2012. Thanks to his vision, foresight, and dedication, the San Nicolò Outpatient Clinic grew and became recognized by the people of Carpi as a center of excellence for instrumental diagnostics.

Today, with Alliance Medical Diagnostic
