Alliance Medical Ireland has taken delivery of the cyclotron for its new Radiopharmacy Unit (RPU) in Newcastle, Dublin.
The arrival marks an important step in the development of the facility, which forms part of an approximately €18 million investment in diagnostic imaging infrastructure.
Once operational, the new Radiopharmacy Unit will support PET tracer production in Ireland, helping strengthen supply and support wider access to PET-CT services nationally.
PET-CT plays an important role across the cancer pathway, supporting diagnosis, treatment planning and ongoing monitoring. Alliance Medical Ireland estimates that PET-CT findings lead to changes in treatment plans for around three in ten patients, helping ensure care is better aligned to individual clinical needs.
The project also represents an investment in future molecular imaging capability. Alongside supporting current PET tracer demand, the facility is expected to create up to 20 specialised roles within the radiopharmaceutical field and support the continued development of advanced diagnostic services.
The cyclotron delivery marks a major milestone for the project, with equipment installation and commissioning work continuing as the facility progresses towards becoming operational.
