One year after acquiring Mercurius Health’s Iberian operations, Alliance Medical Iberia has continued to expand its capabilities across diagnostic imaging, nuclear medicine and oncology services in Spain and Portugal.
Over the past twelve months, Alliance Medical Iberia has combined established local expertise with the scale, experience and capabilities of Alliance Medical Group, while continuing to develop services for patients and healthcare partners.
Today, Alliance Medical Iberia operates across more than 15 locations in Spain and Portugal, having delivered approximately 84,000 diagnostic examinations and treatments, with a clear ambition: to provide patients and healthcare partners with greater access to advanced diagnostic and treatment solutions, closer to home.
The acquisition of Radiotherapy operations now form an integral part of Alliance Medical Group’s wider strategy to strengthen its capabilities across the cancer pathway, bringing additional expertise in radiotherapy and nuclear medicine into the Group.
One year on, developments across the region reflect both continued local growth and the benefits of being part of Alliance Medical Group’s wider international network:
In Tarragona, the opening of a new Radiotherapy Oncology Centre at Viamed Hospital marked a significant step in expanding cancer treatment capabilities in the region.
Equipped with advanced radiotherapy technology and supported by an experienced multidisciplinary team, the centre provides patients with access to personalised cancer treatment close to home.
In Andalusia, Alliance Medical Iberia has continued to strengthen its nuclear medicine services, building on its established PET-CT network and expanding its regional presence.
This growth will continue with the planned opening of a new facility in Málaga (Limonar), further improving access to advanced molecular imaging services.
In Catalonia, the recent acquisition of CDIT represents another important milestone. Together with the existing IMD network, the acquisition broadens Alliance Medical Iberia’s diagnostic imaging offering, bringing additional services and clinical expertise into the regional network.
Alongside these clinical developments, businesses across Spain and Portugal have progressively come together under a unified Alliance Medical Iberia identity.
The move creates a clearer regional presence within Alliance Medical Group while retaining the local expertise, relationships and trust established by teams across Iberia.
Reflecting on the first year, António Sotto Mayor, CEO of Alliance Medical Iberia, said:
“Looking back at our first year as part of Alliance Medical Group, I am incredibly proud of what our teams have achieved together. We have expanded our clinical capabilities, strengthened our presence across Iberia and taken important steps towards building a more integrated healthcare organisation.”
One of the key strategic ambitions behind the acquisition was to strengthen Alliance Medical Group's capabilities across the oncology pathway.
By bringing together diagnostic imaging, nuclear medicine, radiotherapy and radiosurgery within a single regional platform, Alliance Medical Iberia is uniquely positioned to support patients and healthcare partners across different stages of diagnosis and treatment.
This integrated approach combines advanced technology, specialist clinical expertise and compassionate care, helping patients access the services they need with greater proximity and continuity.
Commenting on the last year, Nick Burley, Chief Executive Officer for Alliance Medical Group, said:
"The last year has demonstrated the strength of the expertise, capabilities and services that joined Alliance Medical Group through the addition of Radiotherapy capability and capacity.
Over the past year, António and the wider team have successfully brought together capabilities, expertise and services from across the region. Their progress reflects the value of combining strong local knowledge with the wider capabilities of Alliance Medical Group, while further strengthening our expertise across diagnostic imaging, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine.
As we look ahead, we see continued opportunities to build on that foundation through collaboration, research, innovation and the ongoing development of cancer care services."
Alongside its clinical and operational developments, the Alliance Medical Iberia team is contibuting to wider research and innovation activity across Alliance Medical Group.
This includes work exploring the potential role of AI within diagnostic services, bringing regional clinical knowledge into projects with relevance across the wider Group.
As Alliance Medical Iberia enters its second year, its focus remains on expanding access to high-quality healthcare, strengthening partnerships with healthcare providers and continuing to invest in advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities.
Reflecting on the purpose behind that progress, António added:
“Beyond the milestones and the growth, what matters most is the impact we make on patients' lives every day. Our ambition is to continue bringing advanced diagnosis and cancer treatment closer to more people, combining clinical excellence, innovation and the human care that defines our teams."
With a stronger network, a unified identity and growing capabilities across diagnostic imaging, nuclear medicine and oncology, Alliance Medical Iberia enters its second year with a clear focus on the future.
Building on the progress of the past twelve months, the region will continue to expand access to high-quality healthcare, strengthen partnerships and support Alliance Medical Group's shared ambition to make a meaningful difference in more patients' lives.
